MINISTRY OF EDUCATION INFORMATION

WEBINAR TRAINING INFORMATION

Following enquiries from Member School Boards of Trustees it seemed more information was needed about the new webinars planned by the Ministry of Education.  We asked the Ministry, on behalf of our Members, to provide more details as to how the "webinars" would work in practicality.  We are pleased to be able to provide some clarification around their delivery, timing, content and access - Please find as follows further information from the Ministry:

The webinars are ‘e-seminars’ delivered in real time at a range of agreed times over a period of time. They are delivered by professional presenters who will be supported by people with expert content knowledge (either contracted or from within the Ministry) and are interactive to the extent that questions can be asked etc etc.

To access this training trustees need a computer with access to the internet (not necessarily broadband) and a telephone. I understand webinar works best on an individual basis, but if that is not possible trustees could meet and share access. There is no technical expertise required beyond that. This is why we have been trying to get hold of contact details for individual trustees. Trustees will be helped through how the system works and will be asked about preferred times to access the training. That information will not be used for any other purpose.

Webinar is funded out of the Crown budget that supports boards of trustees so there is no charge.

There are three separate webinars planned over the course of the year (1 July to 30 June 2010) that will focus on core board activities at those times and based around the planning and reporting cycle and will tie in the link with the new National Standards work, for example.

The ‘Tailored Training and Support’ element described on the attached document will operate much like the ‘Pool 2’ approach that currently operates, except that we will have a more transparent process for matching board needs with the skills of particular providers.
